Ege Subasi (b. 1995, Balıkesir) is an Istanbul-based artist working primarily in painting and drawing.

Her practice focuses on existential inquiries within human psychology through the concepts of self-awareness, identity, and the notion of the self. Subasi’s work investigates the structure of the self as it is shaped by external influences throughout the process of becoming, while simultaneously questioning the existence of an inherent, irreducible core;

The artist examines states of ambiguity and uncertainty within the human psyche through the metaphor of the “Smoke Screen,” exploring how alienation obscures self-perception and disrupts the individual’s relationship with their own identity. This condition of alienation manifests visually in her works through blurred, fragmented, and indistinct imagery. Through figurative and portrait-based compositions, Subasi seeks to render visible the fragile and unstable nature of identity.

In her practice, the artist draws on photographs she has taken herself, as well as images sourced from a range of visual materials. This approach enables the emergence of new representations of the self through the transformative capacity of memory. Subasi’s practice establishes a dialogue between personal memory and universal existential questions, positioning the individual’s search for selfhood as a field of visual inquiry.​
